To commemorate the 29th anniversary of the death of Daw Khin Kyi, wife of the national leader General Aung San, a ceremony known as “Soon”, a rice meal donation ceremony for monks, was held at the residence of her daughter, State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, on University Avenue Road in Yangon yesterday morning.
The State Counsellor offered meals and robes to 15 members of the Sangha in commemoration of her late mother before receiving sermons from the monks.
In the afternoon, leaders from different faiths including Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Judaism and Bahá’í prayed for Daw Khin Kyi.
Daw Khin Kyi, mother of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, died 29 years ago at the age of 76 after a long illness.
