While performing patrol duty in the Naf River at the border between Myanmar and Bangladesh, security forces fired shots at eight illegal Bangladeshi fishing boats which had approached the patrol boat to attack the forces, officials said.
A Tatmadaw marine patrol boat found eight illegal fishing boats from the neighboring country in the middle of the Kanyin creek and Nyaung Creek and were going to inspect
the boats because five of the eight boats at that point were trespassing in Myanmar territory.
But the illegal boats surrounded the marine patrol boat in manoeuvres that suggested they were going to attack.
To ensure security and the lives of the soldiers, the patrol team fired two shots, causing the boats to abandon the area.
After the incident, Border Guard forces from Bangladesh informed the Myanmar side that one died and two were injured in the incident.
An investigation is ongoing into the incident.
